Episode 2: Aimee Zakrewski Clark

The Furthest I Was from Fine…

When I started sifting through the stories I wanted to share with this podcast, I thought I was going to start with the recent past: 2017 and on. But once I started evaluating what had led to my breakdown in December of 2018, it was much harder to find a starting point than I’d thought it would be. What seemed like a typical case of burnout actually fed into issues I have been working to address and process for decades, and a lot of it started when I sought out a couples therapist in 2006 to help me with my then boyfriend.

The relationship was doomed, but the therapy was life-changing. Working with Aimee showed me that there were couples who had open conversations about their challenges and shortcomings, that I was worth the boundaries I was struggling to build, and that though I could never control my thoughts and feelings, I could absolutely learn more about how to work with the ones I did have.

Aimee’s one of those people who seems completely unstoppable, and in addition to helping clients and training new therapists, she also has a podcast full of helpful information, writes for various outlets including HuffPo, and runs her daughters’ school PTA. I’m tired just writing about her many accomplishments and interests!
